Sat., Apr. 25, 2025, 10 AM - 2 PM: UU Climate Justice Revival Workshop: All are Welcome!

Climate Justice Revival – Part 3: Action Planning Workshop

Join us for Part 3 of our Climate Justice Revival, where we will focus on building our congregational action plan for climate justice.

You do not need to have attended previously to participate—everyone is welcome.

For the first time in memory, the entire Unitarian Universalist ecosystem is mobilizing together for climate justice. We are all deeply aware of the urgency of the climate crisis. Even seasoned environmental advocates often feel overwhelmed or powerless. But together, we are powerful.

Thousands of UUs across the globe are uniting in a denominational Climate Justice Revival, aimed at re-energizing our shared commitment and launching coordinated, effective action.

During our congregational workshop, we will:

-Review our insights and goals from Workshop 1 and 2
-Continue with our Green Sanctuary efforts

This is a rare moment of collaboration and collective purpose across UU congregations. It's not often that our churches act in concert, and this Revival series is a unique opportunity to be part of something larger than ourselves. The day promises not only to be meaningful, but also energizing and fun.

Let’s join hands in faith, courage, and action.

Sat., Mar. 7, 2 -5 PM: Spoken Word Poetry Workshop

Date & Time: Saturday, March 7, 2:oo - 5:00 PM

Facilitator: Kayla Z.

Cookies Provided!

RSVP: to Kayla, or just show up!

Please join us for a Spoken Word Poetry Workshop!  I am so excited to be facilitating this event as an opportunity for healing and joy in the face of everything that is going on in the world and in our personal lives.

If you're interested in my "why" behind hosting this event, please check out this TED Talk!  While short for a TED Talk, it is about 13 minutes long, fair warning!  :)  I think it is worth the watch, though, otherwise I would not have shared it with you.

Please do not think that you have to be "good at writing" or "good at poetry" or "creative" to attend!  In fact, I am designing this afternoon to be very friendly to people who have never explored Spoken Word Poetry as an art form before!

We will do the following during our time together:

We will create a very brief covenant to create a safe space for all.

We will view some examples of Spoken Word and discuss what about them makes them "good."

We will have time to work on our own craft (poetry), pencils, pens, highlighters, paper and prompts provided!

We will have a time for those who *want* to share to share at the end.  Participants are encouraged to share what they have created, but under no circumstances should you feel that this is a requirement!

The primary goal of our time together will be to explore an art form (Spoken Word Poetry) that you may or may not have considered as art before.  This workshop will set you up with the tools you need to be able to craft your own writing, and hopefully that is something you can take with you to play with in the future!

If you could let me know ahead of time if you plan on coming, that will help me know how many copies of things to have on hand! :)  If you decide to come last minute, no worries, there will be extra!

To help you prepare, here are the questions we’ll be reflecting on:

How does our Mission, Covenant, and/or Vision of Ministry guide our shared ministry?

Congregational Mission Statement
The transforming power of love is our core belief.
We embody a sanctuary of compassion, integrity, and respect.
We champion justice, equity, and peace.

Congregational Covenant
We covenant together to make a welcoming community,
To walk together in the way of truth and love,
To seek the life of the spirit, as it is known by each person,
To support each other in thought, word, and deed,
As we work to build a better world.

Board Vision of Ministry for this Year
This year we will be a sanctuary where every person is known, fed, and transformed through authentic connection and courageous action.

What is working well in our church community?

What do we need to work on? Where do we feel called to grow?

How do we experience our relationship with Rev. Denise in this shared ministry?

What hopes do you have for our future together?

Is there anything else you would like to share?

If you have any questions, reach out to Kristin R.

Sat. Nov. 1, 4:30 PM - 8:30 PM: GNUUC Movie Night with Dinner and Popcorn (Fellowship Hall)

Join us on Saturday, November 1 at 4:30 PM for Movie Night with dinner and popcorn!

Main Course provided - we are debating Pizza or a Taco Bar. You bring drinks, sides or desserts (optional).
Plus Jesse is bringing his movie theater popcorn machine!

If you know you are coming please RSVP to kristin.reveal@gnuuc.org so that we know how much food to order.

We’ll be watching Wicked: Part 1 before Wicked: Part 2 comes out in theaters. Wicked is rated PG.

Adults - you will enjoy this movie too! Please come! Wicked reframes a familiar fantasy based on The Wizard of OZ, through complex moral, political, and social questions. It challenges the ideas of good and evil, showing how systems of power define morality to maintain control. The main character, Elphaba refuses to conform when she sees injustice, choosing truth over reputation. Wicked also explores how propaganda, fear, and bureaucracy sustain power. The Wizard’s regime depends on controlling narratives and silencing dissent. In short, Wicked asks profoundly adult questions: What does it cost to stay true to your values? How do we tell truth from illusion when authority shapes the story?

Teacher and Wiggle Room Aid Training

Be Part of Our Children’s RE Team!

Do you enjoy working with children, helping them learn, and being part of their spiritual journey? We are looking for Teachers and Wiggle Room Aides to support our Children’s Religious Education program this year.

Join us for our Teacher & Wiggle Room Aid Training on Sunday, September 7 from 12:45 – 2:00 PM. (Sanctuary)

At this training, we’ll:

  • Learn the basics of facilitating children’s groups in a UU congregation.

  • Review our class flow, covenant, and safety policies.

  • Get oriented to the exciting curriculum and upcoming RE calendar.

You don’t need prior teaching experience — just a willingness to show up, listen, and help create a loving, safe space for our children. Long-time members and newcomers alike are encouraged to attend.

If you are a Classroom Helper or Wiggle Room Aid, you will not need to prepare a lesson. Just show up!

Come be part of a team that helps our children feel seen, heard, and supported as they grow in their UU faith.
