Training for Winter Shelter at GNUUC

Training and Dinner on October 7, 2016 at 6pm at GNUUC

The number of people experiencing homelessness in Nashville is large and growing. While this is a serious issue year-round, it is a crisis during the cold winter months when shelters are overflowing and the consequences of sleeping outdoors are dire. In an effort to create more space in winter, Room in the Inn partners with 195 Nashville congregations to provide additional shelter space at those churches. This partnership presents an opportunity for GNUUC to make a difference in the physical (space to sleep), emotional (caring community), mental (peace, feeling safe) and spiritual well-being (many have never experienced the warmth and openness of a UU community) of some of Nashville’s most vulnerable. GNUUC will continue our long-standing relationship with Safe Haven Family Shelter providing dinner six times per year. And, GNUUC will partner with Room in the Inn to offer a safe, secure space for eight men one night per month (the 1st Thursday of the month) during the winter months: November 3, December 1, January 5, February 2, March 2.
