Pasha Talankin is an unlikely hero — a beloved Russian primary school teacher known as a mentor and prankster, who offers his students a safe haven in his classroom. But when Russia invades Ukraine, everything changes. Pasha finds himself reluctantly drawn into Putin's propaganda machine, forced to promote state-sanctioned messages while watching his school and community transform around him.

Horrified and guilt-ridden, he makes a remarkable decision: to fight back. Using his role as the school's videographer, Pasha secretly documents the inner workings of Putin's regime — the rise of militarized children's groups, fervent nationalism, repressive laws, and the recruitment of graduating students to fight in the war. When he learns his own life may be at risk, he must plan a dangerous escape from Russia.

Directed by David Borenstein and Pasha Talankin, Mr. Nobody Against Putin is as captivating and joyful as it is eye-opening and sobering. An Official Selection of the Sundance Film Festival, it offers rare, intimate footage of how Putin's regime affects the lives of everyday Russians — especially its children. This is the kind of film that stays with you.

Format: Documentary, run time 90 minutes
