Look for the Girl Scout table during lunch this Sunday, January 12. Most cookies are $3.50 per box, except for the girl scout s’mores and toffee-tastic, which are $5 per box. Girl Scouts will be taking pre-orders on Sunday. Cookies arrive in mid-February, by Valentine’s Day! See you Sunday!

Late Autumn Garden

Please contact Cynthia, Mary Hinton or Denise Graves if you have suggestions or ideas for workshops. We also need people to lead workshops on some areas of expertise, hobby, or interest. Some past workshops that have been successful are flower arranging, art projects, and intergenerational games and activities.

“This is What Democracy Looks Like!” is a joyful and defiant chant heard at countless marches since it’s origins in Seattle in 1999. But like much of our shared movement history, you don’t know where it came from. Before sharing what happened on that cold and rainy November morning, there’s even older context that adds depth to that movement moment.

Rev. Cynthia Stewart is collecting money or Christmas bags for the 800 incarcerated men at DeBerry Special Needs prison here in Nashville, where those who have severe medical and sometimes end of life needs are sent. The prison ministry she works for is already working on providing other things like shampoo, socks, and beanies, but would like some help purchasing goodies to go in the bag. Would you consider donating $5 or $10 during the pot luck lunch on December 1? Or you can make a donation through GoFundMe at Candy for the Incarcerated.

Email Kristin what you decide to bring and she will update the “needed” list. On the November 2 Game Night, we will form an assembly line to build all 40 lunches needed for the season. You do not need to come to Game Night to donate items. Everyone pitch in!

Cynthia is interested in attending the “Congregational Stewardship that Engages All” one day conference in Knoxville if other leaders in the congregation would like to attend as well. It is on Saturday, November 9th. You would drive up early morning and return late afternoon. Greater Nashville UU would cover the $45 registration fee. One of the ways Greater Nashville UU provides sanctuary to our community is through the Room In The Inn Winter Shelter Program. Room In The Inn’s Winter Shelter program runs from November through March each year, in coordination with almost 200 congregations throughout Middle Tennessee. The program provides safe shelter, warm meals, and fellowship for our neighbors struggling with homelessness during the coldest months of the year.
