February Share the Plate Partner is the Mental Health Cooperative

“Every person deserves compassionate care that meets them where they are.

That belief has fueled MHC since day one. From our first community-based programs in Nashville to today’s statewide network of services, we’ve remained committed to serving individuals and families impacted by serious mental illness — especially those facing the greatest barriers to care.

The Mental Health Cooperative was founded in 1993 with a bold mission to provide community-based care for adults with serious mental illnesses. We united three essential services — Urban Case Management, Continuous Treatment Team, and the Mobile Crisis Team — into one coordinated model focused on access, dignity, and real outcomes.”

Only a few years later, MHC expanded its mission to include children, youth, and families. More recently, toward the end of last year, MHC inaugurated its new Children and Youth Emergency Psychiatric Service. GNUUC’s Women’s Group collected wish-list items to donate to this new endeavor.

Services offered by MHC include:

-Emergency Psychiatric Services
-Adult Mental Health Services
-Children, Youth, and Family Services
-Substance Use and Medication Services
-Primary Care Services
-Justice & Outreach Programs

Additionally, MHC participates in two crisis response programs: PIC (Partners in Care), in which a clinician teams up with a trained police officer to respond to individuals experiencing a mental health or behavioral crisis, and REACH (Responders Engaged and Committed to Health), in which a Nashville Fire paramedic and a clinician together respond to nonviolent psychiatric crises.

Today, MHC serves 40,000 individuals at 12 sites across the state! MHC is dedicated to serving those with serious mental illness, especially those affected by trauma, poverty, and limited access to care. Please give generously in February to Share the Plate with the Mental Health Cooperative!
