June Share the Plate: Just Us | Oasis Center
Throughout June, our Share the Plate offering supports Just Us, a program of Nashville's Oasis Center dedicated to helping LGBTQ+ youth reach their full potential. Just Us offers weekly meetings where young people can connect with peers and celebrate their authentic selves, along with individual and group therapeutic support and resources for the families and agencies who walk alongside them.
The program grew directly out of youth voice. When Oasis Center spent a year listening to young people in 2011, they heard a simple request—to be seen as whole people rather than a string of letters. As the teens put it, "Why can't we be just us?" Today, Just Us works across Middle Tennessee toward self-acceptance, safe and affirming schools, family acceptance, and open and affirming faith communities, among other goals.
It's a fitting partner for our June theme, Flourishing Together, and for our own commitment to being a welcoming congregation—a reminder that when our LGBTQ+ youth thrive, our whole community flourishes.
