March Share the Plate: The Remix Way

March Share the Plate is The Remix Way!

Our Mission: The Work of Liberation

The Remix Way is a Middle Tennessee community rooted in justice, solidarity, and the conviction that another world is not only possible but already taking shape among us. We honor the sacred dignity of every person and seek to create spaces where those pushed to the margins carry the wisdom to lead us toward healing, justice, and shared power. Together we labor to make liberation a lived reality in our communities.

Our Vision: A World Set Free

We long for a world where communities are free from oppression and bound together by solidarity. In that world, the stories once silenced are centered, neighbors rise together in courage and creativity, healing is collective, and the flourishing of all people becomes the measure of our common life.

Sacred Work for All People

The Remix Way names itself as a religious organization because we believe the work of liberation is sacred work. For us, “religious” does not mean bound to any creed. It means that justice, dignity, and collective care and healing are deeply sacred realities. We draw wisdom from many sources—faith, conscience, and our shared lived experience—and we honor the sacredness found in everyday acts of solidarity. Our work is more than social change. It is good work that belongs to all of us, and all of us are welcome at the table.

Some of the ways that The Remix Way fulfills its mission:

Mutual aid includes financial assistance to families facing eviction, job loss, medical crises, or other urgent needs, as well as care boxes (cajitas) to families enduring hardship, containing groceries, diapers, hygiene items, and personal notes of encouragement. Additionally, a mutual aid network of volunteers organizes to offer assistance, childcare, meals, and translation help. This network can serve as a rapid response system for community crises. Mercaditos are monthly community markets where families prepare and sell homemade foods, crafts, and goods, with proceeds going to the participating families.

Other activities focus on community trainings, such as Know Your Rights trainings; base building through canvassing, tabling, phone calls, and sending letters to community members about the issues that matter to them; and teaching neighbors and community members how to document, communicate, educate, and advocate with neighbors about injustices and inconsistencies they may experience in the local courts and government processes.

The Remix Way also engages in direct advocacy when community members name concerns and local issues that require mobilization, support, and action, using tactics such as phone banking, letters, petitions, public comments, and protests to support the needs of the community.

Additionally, through its Flip-A-County project, The Remix Way is now partnering with allies in counties beyond Nashville to fight the spread of 287(g) agreements between ICE and local law enforcement.

It is striking how closely aligned the mission of The Remix Way is with our values as UUs! Please give generously this month to our Share the Plate partner
