Proposed Emergency Shelter Policy

The congregation is currently providing emergency shelter to a person who is seeking asylum in the United States. It was no longer safe for them stay with their original sponsor family and they were at risk of becoming homeless if emergency shelter was not found. It is fundamental to our mission as a congregation to provide sanctuary.

This proposed policy for "Emergency Shelter" helps us do this in a sustainable and healthy way. It establishes healthy boundaries and specifies a process for offering shelter and a process for transitioning to long-term housing.

The Board encourages everyone to read the policy and supporting materials and to offer feedback to the board. Feedback can come either to board@gnuuc.org or to individual board members who will share your feedback with the board. The Board looks forward to hosting chat sessions after Sunday worship as well.

The Board hopes to incorporate feedback and vote on the proposed policy at its May 27, 2021 meeting.
