An introduction to our new minister, Rev. Cynthia Cain
Hi there GNUUC folk!
I will be joining you in early August as a companion on your journey. I'm so looking forward to meeting each one of you and getting acquainted. For the first many months, I will be primarily getting to know you, listening to your ideas, hopes, and dreams, and giving you a chance to become acquainted with me through sermons and meetings. I know you were very fond of Rev. Emerson, and I understand that there is always a time of coming to terms with the end of a ministry.
I want to congratulate you on choosing an outstanding Search team, and leaders. I was a bit uncertain about returning to parish ministry after a few years' semi-retirement, but their professionalism and efficiency, as well as the respect they showed for the process were big green lights for me. Make sure to thank them!
Please know that I don't expect perfection all the time! Congregations, like families, have squabbles and strife at times, and like mortals make mistakes or errors of judgment. I'll tell you about a few of mine as time goes by!
I am sure the Board will provide some details about the agreement, and when I visit in July, there will be more information about dates that I will be there and also away.
I love meeting new people and I like the challenges and quandaries that make up our faith communities. To me, church is less a community of like-minded people and more an experiment in becoming more human. Lots of things happen, both joyful and heart-breaking, but you won't be alone. I am honored to share some of that quest toward becoming whole with you.
