We believe in the power of lifelong learning. One of our core theological beliefs as Unitarian Universalists is a commitment to personal spiritual growth. Spiritual growth finds it ways into many of our interactions at Greater Nashville UU, such as in the Sunday Service, in Leadership retreats, and in serving our community.
Two ways we directly nurture spiritual growth at Greater Nashville UU are through Covenant Groups and Adult RE classes.
We believe that faith is a journey we take together.
Religious education takes a lifetime. It happens both within and beyond a congregation's walls. We support one another as individuals, families, and communities in an ongoing search for truth and meaning. We strive to guide one another—all ages among us—in religious questioning, personal change, and discovering ways to better live in faith.
Current 2019-2020 Adult RE Classes
2nd Sundays September - December 2019: 9:30 - 10:30 Faith Formations Class: The Bhagavad Gita
The Bhagavad Gita is one of the great sacred texts of the Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism) and of the world, and yet it is only 18 chapters (700 verses) long. It is the text that inspired Gandhi in his quest for justice in India. In this 4-part series, we will look at the Gita in relation to violence and non-violence, the paths of yoga, and knowledge of the divine within. I will provide copies of specific passages we will be reading; any translations you have are welcome also. In book form I recommend the Easwaran translation, and online there is a good version by Koti & Hari at newbhagavadgita.blogspot.com.
