Aug 26: Playground Depave Party with Cumberland River Compact

  • Greater Nashville UU 374 Hicks Road Nashville, TN, 37221 United States (map)

Register to Help Depave the Way for Our New Playground!

That's right! Our congregation is putting in a brand new 3000 square foot playground. But first, we have to get rid of the parking lot that's in our way. It turns out that getting rid of a parking lot is really expensive. So we're organizing a party!

Thank you Cumberland River Compact

We started by asking the Cumberland River Compact for help. We think of them as the guardians of the Cumberland river, the great river that winds through downtown Nashville.

The Cumberland River Compact is starting a new program to help improve the water quality in the Cumberland river. They are helping people remove unused parking lots so people can make new things like playgrounds and rain gardens!

Registration

Please register with the Cumberland River Compact if you plan on joining us! Since lunch will be provided at no charge it will help us to properly plan if we know about how many people are coming!

Storm Water Management

Parking lots are great and putting rain water directly into rivers and streams. Unfortunately, rain water that washes across a parking lot isn't very clean. It's better to collect it so it can drain into the ground and get filtered before it returns to the rivers and creeks.

A Whole Family Affair

The simplest way to describe what we'll be doing is picking up rocks, plopping them into a wheelbarrow and then loading them into waste container. This is work that even kids can do! Grown ups will be doing things like breaking larger asphalt slabs into smaller chunks and moving the heavy wheelbarrows.

Food and Activities

There will be plenty of activities if you need to take a break. Next to the playground site is a huge wooded hillside to explore. There will be food and drinks and snacks. We're hoping to have live music and mural painting too!
